Well Christmas season is upon us, and 2024 is closing in. It's been another productive year and here are the highlights of what is happening and what is coming up in 2025
We plan to have wastewater treatment system in place in 2025. Detailed Information on the system can be found on website by searching BMS Blivet. It's been years of research to conclude what best suits the needs of our community, with the financial means we all can work within.
The Storm Drainage project (ditching and drainage of upper roads) will go to tender again in 2025. With limited contractors and abundance of work in the area, it leaves us at a stand still. The bids received last year were more than twice the tendered price.
We hope to have some progress with the NWRIA (old Dorm) building this year. It has taken lots of time and paperwork doing background work with government departments to get this far. So hopefully some substantial progress in 2025. We will inform residents as we move forward.
The Municipal building is just about completely renovated inside and out.
The Rink will be ready soon. We have the Zamboni from SIFN that was damaged in a fire. The Zamboni has been repaired and working fine. We have an agreement with Sheshatshiu Band Council to house and maintain it, and in return we will clear their outdoor rink when asked.
The Groomer is ready for the season. The program starts January 16, lets see if the weather cooperates!
Thanks to Chief Reg Hutchings and our Volunteer Fire Dept for another good year. All members have been outfitted with new bunker gear. All breathing apparatus's tested and approved. Besides regular meetings, and school visit, some members attended training. They responded to 2 fires, one in NWR and one in Sheshatshiu.
The 2025 Budget has been approved. This is the first time in 20 years that we are debt free. There will be no fees or property tax increases again this year. The 2025 Property Tax bills will be mailed out by mid February and due June 30th. We will continue to work within the financial framework we have, although progress may not be as fast as we would like, however with all else costing more these days, we do not want to place any extra burden on residents. As the turtle says, "slow and steady wins the race".
We would like to remind residents to turn on your bleed lines to avoid water freeze up. A very tiny stream is all that is needed.
We would like to pass on information from a couple of our volunteer organizations.
