TOWN NEWS
In and out of the Office
We would like to thank everyone for their patience as we complete the firebreak pumphouse project. Since the project began in late 2017, a new pumphouse building with new mechanical equipment and remote monitoring has been installed, as well as new wellhead construction and connections to pumphouse. The boil water advisory will be in place for approximately another month. Other projects planned this summer are the refit of the lift station at Little Llake, as well as paving on Airstrip Road. Hopefully all will be completed before the winter is upon us again!
Spring Cleanup will be completed this week. Dock is repaired and put out for the season. Beach Cleanup will take place Thursday evening 6:00pm June 13th. Everyone is encouraged to come out and help clean the beach enjoy some music and have a hotdog or hamburger.
One year is almost completed with monitoring of our wastewater. We are now moving forward to determine the best wastewater system for our town.
The Fire Dept. and Town has 2 summer student positions. Ads are out, and all students are encouraged to apply.
Canada Day festivities will be hosted again this year by the NWR Community Center committee. All to meet in front of Town Building for raising of the flag at 11:00 am with refreshments at Community Center to follow. The Beach Festival will be taking place July 27th and 28th. Anyone wanting to help, can contact Melanie Blake.
SAFETY SIDE
Congratulations to all our Lake Melville Graduates, students and teachers, who are finishing another school year.
We wish everyone a Safe and Happy summer! And with safety in mind ALL are reminded to play and drive safe. There is NO parking permitted beyond the Labrador Institute on Portage Rd. Please share with your friends outside of town who are visiting our beach. This is for the safety of all. Parking is available at Airstrip Road weekdays and Lab Institute and Town building on weekends. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. We rather not use our resources for towing vehicles. But Will if needed!
We ask all boaters to be respectful when parking at the dock, and vigilant of anyone in the area, especially kids. This is not a swimming area, and it will be closely monitored over the summer.
The new animal health regulations will take effect July 8th, 2019. All dogs must be registered with the Town. Registration and tag is free, all dogs registered by August 20th will be eligible for special doggie prize to help keep your pooch happy and safe. All households will receive a copy of new regulations by mail in near future. The health and safety of residents and animals was foremost in mind when developing these regulations.
