Good Day to All,
The month of March certainly came in with a new challenge for us all, and the upcoming next few months are crucial in terms of what we do, and how well we handle our situation collectively. March brought in this new Virus COVID-19, a respiratory disease that has paralyzed and changed the entire world, in a very short period of time.

Here in North West River, we became concerned very early on, in the second week of March. Your council began working on a Pandemic Plan to best provide you with the most consistent information that was being provided to us by the Federal and Provincial Health Authorities, as well, began an action plan of reviewing our emergency plans, and collecting information from all aspects around our area, including local businesses and government services.

All around the province, new protocols were being implemented on cleaning, and travel was being scaled back to essential to help prevent the spread of this disease. As a town, we started to do the same and we soon closed our town buildings, we sent home any non-essential personnel and we kept our staff at the bare minimum immediately.
Your Council has been working steady and diligently to provide information to you, and helping our community tackle this together.

We struck together a Pandemic Committee quickly in March to help stay organized and bring together each other's local expertise so that we could further provide to you, as much useful information and facts during this crisis for both residents and business. Newsletters have been developed and published on Town of North West River website, and mailed out, detailing preventive measures against this disease and methods to stay safe in the face of this new threat, and we will continue to provide the most consistent information available to us, and make sure it is passed onto you. if you are unable to access them please get in touch and we will forward any onto you.

As we watch businesses close down around us, I want you to know that your council, is working as hard as they can to stay informed, to be there to help, and to be as informative as we can be during this crisis. We have limited staff on hand, and they are doing an excellent job of maintaining the Town's most important needs. We are thankful for your response, patience and suggestions as we go through this together.
Our councillors are working with differing government organizations to provide information on those who may be more at risk than others and will continue to push for added services as needed.
We have had conference calls with many other towns in Labrador and we know that we are doing really well here in North West River, with regards to our preparedness, and our reaction time to this new virus. We are staying in touch with towns that have similar situations as we do, to make sure we are doing the absolute best we can as an organization.
The month of March is behind us, however, we are in this together as April begins, and I would like to assure you that we, your council, management and staff are here for you, to work to maintain the Town, to be as helpful as possible, and to provide you with the most up to date information as soon as we are able. We will continue to meet regularly and discuss where we are presently, and how to best go forward during this uneasy time.
We are going to get through this together, by working together, by supporting one another, and by looking out for each other, by being kind and thoughtful for the needs of others, rest assured, we are here for you all.
In conclusion, I would like to extend our collective gratitude and admiration for all the medical staff, first responders, and essential workers within our borders, and outside as well. There are many that work and live with us here, and those who work in neighboring communities and hospitals that are working beyond and are directly affected by their close proximity to this virus, we commend you for keeping our health your first priority. So for us to support and help you, I ask that we ALL continue to follow the recommended advice provided by our health authorities, and stay home, self isolate, continue social and physical distancing, wash your hands and surfaces with soap and water often to keep us from becoming ill.
Thank you, Stay safe!

David
