Office/Covid-19 update April 7
Posted 08 April 2020, 4:24 pm NDT
We would like to applaud the citizens of North West River who are following the Provincial, Federal and Municipal Protocol and staying isolated and in your bubble. This past couple of weeks we have been introduced to a lot, including a few new buzz words. Bubble, isolation and self isolation. So to review:
Isolation means that we stay home alone, or within the family bubble, and only venture outside that bubble when necessary. Outdoor activities, such as a walk can be done together while maintaining 2 metre distance from another "bubble". If you visit a cabin, sharing space and dishes with someone from outside your "bubble", you are putting everyone at risk.
Self-isolation means that you are living separately from others. If someone has returned from another country, another province, one must put themselves in 'self-isolation' for two weeks to ensure that you have no Covid-19. If you are returning from a work camp, where distancing/isolation was not maintained, it is recommended that you self isolate, if this is not possible then stay within your family bubble for two weeks, just as all of us should be doing by now. If you develop any COVID-19 symptoms call 811 immediately.
We are continually working to minimize the number of residents needing to travel to HVGB. Terrington Consumers Coop and their staff are doing a great job at delivering groceries. We were hoping to arrange the same service for prescriptions but unfortunately, this will not be a service the Town can offer. We suggest NG members contact their local government to see if this is a service they can provide.
Garbage Pickup will maintain regular schedule. We ask everyone to put their garbage out by side of road NOT in cans after 8:00 am, on day of pickup. Although this is a great time for spring cleaning, we want to remind residents that ONLY household garbage is to be placed at roadside for pickup. The Town Garbage truck will be parked by Community Center during the week for anyone who would like to take their excess HOUSEHOLD garbage there. This is to reduce the handling of bags by Town employees. Please try your best to reduce your amount of garbage, it is all a help! Our annual spring cleanup will take place in June.
A reminder to all residents that the 2020 property tax bill is due April 30th. We would like to thank everyone who have been paying their tax bills by e-transfer. Cheques are always welcome by mail, and we accept Visa and Mastercard payments by appointment at the office. If you would like to pay by this method, please call or email for an appointment. If there is no answer, please leave a message, with conference calling, phones are a busy device these days!
Not only now in this unprecedented time of COVID-19, but as always, your safety is our priority, we are actively meeting through conferences calls daily and although Animal health has taken a back burner, we want to remind dog owners to keep their animal on their property and tethered at all times. We really appreciate everyone doing a good job in these past few months with this ongoing concern, however there are still a couple of residents in Town who lure stray dogs with food. This is unacceptable behaviour, the dogs become a safety threat to all out us in town, and they will eventually be destroyed. This is not a good outcome for the animals, or the person who feeds them. Please help us, to help you!
Remember no matter what happens, now more than ever ;. We are all in this together, so let's do our best to keep everyone Safe, Happy, and Healthy.
