We were asked to pass on some news from the volunteers at the United Church Thrift Shop
The NWR United Church Thrift Shop continues to open Tuesdays from 630-8pm with 8 customers at a time and other Covid precautions in place. We have weekly additions to all departments, lots of clothes for everyone, and a Christmas department. We also have a table of new items for Thrifty Christmas Gift shopping. We are happy to receive donations on Tuesdays. We do not accept books, electronics or furniture. Household and kitchen items are most welcome. We have just sent our fourth shipment of the summer of over 600 pounds of clothing and household items to the Coast. We are advised that these items are welcomed and distributed to families who appreciate them.
EXTENDED DECEMBER HOURS AND SALES: in addition to regular Tuesdays, we will be open Friday evenings December 11 and 18 from 6-8pm, and Saturdays December 12 and 19 from 10-12am. For the month of December, you can fill a garbage bag (supplied) for $5 with everything except Christmas items and our 'Thrifty Gift-y' items. Our last shopping day of the year will be December 22 and we want to clear all used Christmas items that night. We will reopen January 5, 2021. Thank you for your generous donations, your enthusiastic shopping, and thank you to those who volunteer at the Shop and make deliveries for shipping. We couldn't do it without you. Merry Christmas to all.
We want to remind everyone to wear reflective clothing when walking, and make sure all vehicles and other objects are not within the road right-of-way (minimum 8.5M from middle of road) before any snowfall. This will allow all roads to be plowed wide enough for emergency vehicles if needed. Any damages to personal property within the right-of-way zone, will be the responsibility of the property owner. We ask snowmobilers reduce speed and noise around residential areas.
This year's tree lighting will take place Monday December 7 at 6:00 pm in front of the Municipal building, a goodie pack will be given out to kids this year, instead of the usual inside snack. Organizations and volunteers have become creative this year, with having to follow public health guidelines, to make sure that we all have a happy holiday, and for that, we are very grateful. Santa Clause will be still making it to North West River for the annual parade on December 20th at 1:00 pm. This year the elves will be dropping gifts at the door. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place floats. The best decorated house contest will take place again this year. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place prizes. Please follow social media and posters in town for information on festivities for all ages, as time gets closer.
The rink is getting iced for the season, the warm-up spot is built, and will be onsite when the ice is ready to use and/or weather allows! one thing we learned in 2020 for sure is, all is subject to change daily.
The Regular Council meeting for month of December will be held on the 17th @7:00pm. Any wishing to present or attend via conference call can do so calling Town office by 12:00 noon on that day.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a peaceful and Merry Christmas, and may you truly feel the blessing of living in this Big Land!
